What We Collect

When you use CastGrade, we collect:

  • Account information: Your email address (used for login)
  • Fishing spots: Locations and preferences you save (coordinates, tide/wind/weather preferences)
  • Google account info: If you sign in with Google, we receive your email and Google account ID. CastGrade's use of information received from Google APIs will adhere to the Google API Services User Data Policy, including the Limited Use requirements.
  • Cookies: We use session cookies to keep you logged in and secure your session. We also use Google Analytics, which sets cookies to help us understand how visitors use the site (see below). We do not use cookies for advertising.
  • Usage & analytics data: We use Google Analytics to collect anonymized information about how you interact with CastGrade — such as pages visited, approximate location (derived from IP address), device and browser type, and referring site. This helps us understand usage and improve the product.

How We Use Your Data

  • To provide personalized fishing spot rankings based on conditions
  • To save your spots and preferences between sessions
  • To authenticate your account
  • To analyze usage patterns and improve the site (via Google Analytics)

We do not sell, share, or provide your data to third parties for marketing purposes.

External Services

We use the following third-party services to provide functionality:

  • Open-Meteo & NOAA CO-OPS: We send coordinates anonymously strictly to retrieve weather and tide data for that specific location. No personal information is attached to these requests.
  • Mapbox: Map display (your browser connects directly to Mapbox)
  • Google OAuth: Optional sign-in method
  • Google Analytics: Website analytics. Google processes usage data on our behalf to generate aggregate reports. Google may set cookies and use your IP address to do this. You can learn more at Google's Privacy Policy, and you can opt out using the Google Analytics Opt-out Browser Add-on.

Data Storage

Your data is stored on secure servers. Passwords are hashed using industry-standard algorithms and are never stored in plain text.

Your Rights

You can:

  • Delete individual fishing spots at any time
  • Request deletion of your account and all associated data by contacting us
